You can also use that spare, analogue controller, and just dial up the exponential in the game optioins screen foir control options, then you don't need to uise the Sanwa. However, this will make it harder to transition from simulator to real car. For maximum benefit, use the same controller for both, set the game expo to zero and have similar settings between car and simulator

It's worth tuning your car in the "Car Setup" screen. To make things "easier" (not the same as fastest laptime enabling), I find it helps to discopnnect the anti-roll bars to dull things down and then recover the steering turning circle by increasing lock a little. Smaller gear reduced top speed for a heavy trigger finger too.
