MEET THE DRIVER - Michael Winkler

[05-05-08]

This week we caught up with German VRC racer Michael Winkler for our 'Meet the Driver' column. We put eight questions to Germany’s top 3 1:8 and 1:10 ranked racer and here is what he had to say:

VRC - How did you get started with VRC?

Michael – I started with VRC in December 2004 by searching the Web to RC Sims and I was got started in June 2005. These days I drive with Ric, Matt, Francis, Marc and some other of today’s leading racers.

VRC - Judging from your racing results it seems that you are suddenly making a lot of improvements within the competition; did you change your racing technique? Or maybe your car-setup? Or do you simply race more often then before? What is it?

Michael - After a long breake from VRC I got back on track in the middle of 2007. At that time I met a new racer Frank Hättich (he makes the great Setups 1/10) and Sebastian Bürge (he makes great Setups 1/8) and our Club Owner from the VRC Team Germany. You can imagine that with these setups, replays and if course also lots of practice I will become more and more faster.

VRC - You currently hold the 6th place in the VRC International Ranking for both 1:10 and the Combined Ranking; how much longer before you reach the top 3?

Michael - Sorry it took so long for these answers to arrive, I now stand at place 4 in the International Combined Ranking and place 2nd and 3rd place in respectively the National 1:8 and 1:10 scale. no for me only the top Driver make a long break.

VRC - Which VRC track is your favourite and why?

Michael - My favourite fun track is speedway; here I mostly compete with Manabu and my friend Frank Biela. All Tracks that have a good setup are my favourite.

VRC - Outside of VRC what r/c classes do you race?

Michael – Outside I don’t drive r/c. From 1992 until 1994 I drove 1/5 by MAC Nuremberg but just for fun.

VRC - What has been your greatest achievement in the sport so far?

Michael - Nothing ,Sport is fun , r/c dont drive, and in my freetime i play VRC or drive slot car 1/24 on a 6 line Woodplane.

VRC - When the VRC V4 game comes out will you give electric a try?

Michael - Yes I will drive and test all from the new VRC ,the most was i wont is multiplayer new graphic and off-road

VRC - V4 also contains fantasy cars and fantasy tracks; in your opinion, what features should the tracks have beyond any doubt?

Michael - I don’t think I fancy fantasy cars and fantasy tracks that much; I’d rather have that stabile engine, those perfect AI´S and a great multiplayer engine that is on its way.
